If you are wondering , where Bergamo is , and what was i doing there just for 6 hours , be a little patient and will explain everything!

April 2017

Our flight to Porto , Portugal ( i will write another post about that amazing place) was with response through Orio Al Serio  Airport , a small airport relatively close to Milan , often used by low cost airlines.

We had six full hours of waiting until our flight , so we store our luggage in the airport’s warehouse ( you can find it outside , on your right) with the help of a happy but not English speaking employer , we got into the Bergamo bus ready for new adventures!

Bergamo is part of the Lombardia Region , 45 minutes away from Milan. It is built on a hill and it is divided in the Upper and Lower Town ( Citta Alta and Citta Bassa ). The lower part of the town is the modern part , nothing really special to see there.  The Upper Town is a true masterpiece , a World Heritage Monument , with great walls surrounding it , cute narrow streets and beautiful architecture! You can go, from the Lower to the Upper Town , either bu bus or the funicular.

What you should do and see in Bergamo.

Since it was my first Italy trip , i had to have an espresso and most preferably in Plaza Vecchia , the main square of Bergamo which lead us to Duomo di Bergamo , the most important cathedral of the town and an absolute piece of art. Bergamo , is not a big town and there not a lot of things to do other than eating and drinking espressos. It is usually used as a base for trips to Milan or Lake Como or as part of a roadtrip , since accommodation on the lowest part of the town is cheaper than other cities , but still quite expensive , because come’on , it s Italy we are talking about ;-).

After trying a must have gellato , we headed back to the airport , where our luggage was waiting for us , ready for new adventures!!
